Beds of forest soil and acid soil

Besides from the alpines and rockery plants, there are many other plants in the garden which need more nutritious soil than the soil we use in the rockeries. Good drainage is also important in those beds. The soil is heavier and the trees which are planted there offer a traveling shade to those beds. We use this part of the garden especially for growing bulbous and tuberous plants.

Finally we have a few beds with acid soil left. Some years ago, we collected Rhododendrons but now we only have few areas with sphagnum left where we have kept the Rhododendrons which we liked the most. We also use compressed peat for plants of the Shortia genus.
