Besides from the ordinary rockeries, we have used thin Nexø sandstones to build up crevice beds. Crevice beds are where the rocks are placed edgeways and close to each other to offer the advantage of making it possible for the plants to grow in small crevices resembling the conditions from their natural habitats. The plants can therefore grow close together without interfering with each other. This type of rockery has become very popular during the last couple of years as they have turned out to be very manageable when growing alpine plants.
With help from Zdenek Zvolanek from Czech Republic, we have in September 2011 transformed our two old crevise beds for a new, 45 m2 crevise bed. Zdenek Zvolanek built crevise beds all over the world eg in Wisley Garden in London and Bangsbo Botanical Garden in Frederikshavn, Denmark. With the new crevise bed we have even better opportunities to provide plants with growing conditions similar to conditions in nature.
